How To Calculate Cubic Metres (CBM) When Shipping

Identifying Cubic Metres or CBM is the initial step you need to consume identifying how you can ship your cargo. You won't want to be shipping FCL cargo as FCL Groupage cargo nor would you like to be shipping FCL Groupage Cargo as FCL, unless of course clearly you've arrived at or exceeded the break-even reason for your cargo that we train within the section FCL versus FCL Groupage.

The CBM of the consignment is definitely calculated

L x W x H

e.g. 3,20 x 2,45 x 1,56

= 12,23CBM

For Seafreight deliveries, the concept would be to calculate CBM in metres. For those who have 320cm's
then convert it to three,2metres before beginning the calculation.
For those who have 45cm's your formula may have ,45metres.

A 20ft General Purpose or dry container will pack no more than 33,2CBM although a 40ft General Purpose or dry container will pack 67,7CBM.

A 40ft High Cube which allows you more room to bring along and can pack no more than 76,3CBM.
The suggestions above are susceptible to your type of commodity and just how it's packed.

40ft General Purpose containers and Cube containers are just for use for bigger volume cargo and never bigger weight cargo. Within my article on cargo weights and road weight restrictions, I discuss this time further.

And to keep in mind is the duration of your cargo, you cannot pack 13 metre steel pipes inside a 40ft General Purpose container because it is only 12,036metres long. The correct equipment is going to be needed within this situation.

For airfreight deliveries, the technique the air travel industry uses may be the
Volume / Weight.

For those who have 5 boxes that identical in dimensions which are 23cmx34cmx56cm (LxBxH)
Presume the actual weight of each one of the 5 boxes is 10kgs.

What you'll have to do first is separate the Volumetric in the Actual Weight.

Volumetric Weight Actual Weight
(23x34x56) div 6000 10kgs per box
= 43792 div 6000
= 7,30kgs per box

For Five boxes : 7,30 x 5 For 5 boxes : 10 x 5

=36,5kgs =50kgs

The real weight must be declared towards the air travel here would be the actual weight
from the boxes of 50kgs.
